Since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in many countries around the world, the international community has increasingly recognized the effectiveness of TCM in combating the epidemic, and TCM has gained popularity in overseas markets. In response to COVID-19 and its variants, TCM experts have identified three patented drugs and three herbal formulas that have proven clinically effective: Jinhua Qinggan granules, Lianhua Qingwen capsules, Xuebijing injection, as well as Qingfei Paidu decoction, Huashi Baidu formula, and Xuanfei Baidu formula. TCM was deeply integrated into epidemic prevention and control efforts, effectively improving recovery rates and reducing mortality rates, demonstrating its unique strengths and roles. According to statistics, among the confirmed COVID-19 cases in China, more than 70,000 patients received TCM treatment, accounting for 91.5%. Clinical efficacy observations show that the overall effective rate of TCM exceeded 90%. The three patented drugs and three herbal formulas, as representatives of TCM, have also provided assistance to countries around the world in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the pandemic, to avoid adverse reactions caused by improper use, patients are advised to use these medicines under the guidance of TCM practitioners. On March 29, 2021, the State Council Information Office held a press conference, during which a representative from the Department of Medical Administration of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine stated that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, an action plan will be implemented to enhance TCM services at the grassroots level. The plan aims to establish TCM clinics in all community health service centers and township health centers, while also strengthening the development of these facilities. These efforts will improve the accessibility and quality of TCM services at the grassroots level, giving the public a greater sense of benefit.

TCM is a treasure of Chinese civilization and is well-positioned to contribute China's wisdom and solutions to the global fight against the pandemic. On May 25, 2019, the 72nd World Health Assembly approved the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), which for the first time includes a chapter on traditional medicine originating from TCM. This is a valuable achievement made possible through more than a decade of continuous efforts by the Chinese government and TCM experts. Taking this opportunity to combat the pandemic, China is working with other countries to build a "Health Silk Road" and strengthen cooperation in the field of traditional medicine, where TCM will play an even greater role.
